Antique North Carolina Stoneware 4-gallon Churn, W. H. Chriscoe
I attribute this great 4 -gallon North Carolina salt glaze churn to W. Chriscoe, made in or near the Catawba Valley, ca. It has a solid look with a nicely shaped collar and an outstanding glaze. It has distinctive lug handles and the capacity mark “4” inscribed below one handle. There is a small chip on one handle, a few on the rim and a larger chip on the other handle. It has a 4-inch tight crack near the base. This churn is 17.5-inch ht. By 8-inch diameter and weighs 10 lbs. The clay is red. This is the first time this fantastic North Carolina stoneware Chriscoe churn has been listed and it could be a terrific addition to a collection. This crock’s beautiful, rustic appearance makes it a wonderful piece to display. I describe every item as well as I can but remember that the photos are part of the description.
