THE CRUCHE WAS FOR POURING WATER AT DINNER BUT THE BEAUCAIRE CRUCHE WAS THE FIRST CREATION TO ADD A TOP HANDLER FOR TRANSPORTING THROUGHOUT THE DAY. THIS MADE THE USE OF WATER QUITE EASY. BEAUCAIRE IS ACROSS THE RHONE RIVER AND IT IS LSO THE BEGINNING OF LANGUEDOC. MOST BEAUCAIRE CRUCHES WERE PRODUCED IN CASTELNAUDARY STARTING IN THE 18TH C. THE SUPERIOR SIDE OF THE CRUCHE WAS ALWAYS GLAZED IN BRIGHT YELLOW-MUSTARD GLAZE AND THE INFERIOR BOTTOM WAS LEFT UNGLAZED FOR THE CLAY WAS POROUS. VERY FEW CAN BE FOUND IN GREEN AS THEY HAD TO BE’MADE TO ORDER’ AT A HIGHER COST. THIS WATER CRUCHE THAT I OFFER HERE IS A BEAUTY AT 13 INCHES AND A THICK, BRIGHT YELLOW-MUSTARD GLAZE. THIS CRUCHE IS TOWARDS THE LARGER SIZE AT 13 INCHES AND THE GLAZE IS ALMOST IN ITS ORIGINAL CONDITION EXCEPT FOR MINOR WEAR AROUND THE RIM. THE LOVELY DRIP DESCENDS ONTO THE UNGLAZED CLAY AND IS JUST THE RIGHT FINAL TOUCH. THIS IS A RARE SIZE AND A PERFECT, THICK GLAZE. IT IS ALSO FIRST HALF OF THE 19TH C. IF YOU’VE WANTED AN AUTHENTIC CRUCHE OF THIS TYPE… We always offers the same quality of excellence that make us the premier experts of’Terres Vernissees’ in the US. NEVER HAS ONE PIECE ARRIVED WITH A PROBLEM! Jaunes et Vertes Antique French Glazed Pottery. The finest pieces on the web and in our shop..
