Antique Rockingham Glazed Dripware/Yellow Ware Toby Shaving Mug Bennett Baltimore Stoneware. These shaving mugs were designed by English Potter Charles Coxon and produced at the E. Bennett pottery plant in Baltimore, MD. This mug design is on display at the Philly Museum of Art, Brooklyn Museum, and National Museum of American History. This molded mug has the image on both sides of Toby seated holding a razor in one hand with a mug in his other. Toby man is separated by an acanthus leaf motif. Includes molded twig-form handle – minor scuffing on the handle, please see photo. Surface decorated with a rich reddish-brown glaze over yellowish clay ground. The glaze is manganese. The underside is glazed, with three stilt marks in a triangular pattern on the base. There are faint markings under the glaze suggesting it may have been signed, not certain. 4 1/8 x 5 3/16 x 4 1/4 inches. I have looked it over very carefully, but this mug is 170 years old, it may have flaws that I didn’t catch! Item will be wrapped like its taking a trip to the moon.
