LARGE ANTIQUE COBALT BLUE DECORATED SALT GLAZED STONEWARE. Bulbous jug with a narrow neck and spout. Handmade and decorated with elaborate cobalt decor, a stylized bird motif (probably peacock) and floral decor. During the firing process, rock salt was added to the furnace, from which the salt glaze was made. Manufactured in the Westerwald, Germany around 1850. Height approx 15 1/8. Diameter approx 10 1/8.
