This is a stunning mid-1800s pitcher decorated with an applied fox hunt scene and horse figures covering the side of the pitcher. The figures and decorative elements are molded from white clay and applied to the yellow ware body before it was fired, this decorative technique is known as sprigging. The decoration continues around the rim, with an applied grape vine and molded face of a man with rams horns forming the spout. The sprigged hunt scene has drying lines in it that typically happen during firing and one of the horses lost its tail during firing. Measuring 5 high, this is a very finely detailed pitcher that does not appear in any of the books on yellow ware.
