ANY piece by this potter are extremely rare. A cake crock is nearly unheard of. Please see the close-up to admire the craftsmanship that went into making this piece. The rim and incised lines are especially nice. One must remember these men were pumping a foot peddle to keep their potting wheel moving. This piece sports a hand applied cobalt blue stylized flower that was very popular in the 1840’s. The interior has an Albany Glaze, another advancement of fine stoneware in the 1840’s. ALBA was one of the principal “founding fathers” of New York City pottery advancements in the early to mid 1800’s. Like other New York City potters his work is extremely difficult to find. Measures: 7″ Tall x 8 1/2″ Across. The only apology this piece has is a chip along the top rim. We’ve lived on this land since 1742! I’ve attached a couple pictures of our completed work.
