MID to LATE 19TH CENTURY AME RI CAN ANTIQUE PRIMITIVE SALT GLAZED STONEWARE 3 GALLON JUG, with HAND PAINTED COBALT BLUE SLIP COMBINED’ #3′ &’BEE STING’ SIDEWALL DECORATION, with SLAB CONSTRUCTED HANDLE. & WHEEL -THROWN BODY. [Found on the North Shore of Massachusetts]. Mid to late 19th century Ame ri can antique hand decorated salt-glazed stoneware jugs & crocks. 16″ Height x 10″ Width. In truly spectacular, very well-preserved overall antique condition. There are no hairline cracks, large flea-bites, sidewall stains or ceramic loss on this fairly early, mid to late 19th century Ame ri can antique combined, contiguous hand-drawn #3 and’bee-sting’ motif, cobalt blue slip sidewall decorated, salt-glazed 3-gallon handled stoneware ceramic jug. It features a slab-constructed handle and thick, heavy-duty, sturdy pouring spout. It was found in a post and beam farmhouse and early estate on the North Shore of Massachusetts and was covered in layers of dust, silt and cobwebs before it was very carefully dusted and rinsed with tepid water and gently dried, to reveal its nearly unscathed and miraculously close to undamaged surfaces. Only a few slight, very minor superficial flea-bites (which constitutes evidence of previous use) along the rim of the top pouring spout, mar this otherwise close to pristine and nearly immaculate 3-gallon Ame ri can antique stoneware jug. It was originally realized in New England in the mid-late 19th century, circa 1845 to 1870 and from the US Civil War period. The blue-slip’bee-sting’ sidewall decor is great. Terrific and exuberant, gestural, hand-decorated, contiguous, combined #3 and’bee-sting’ sidewall cobalt-blue slip, hand painted motif, make this particular Ame ri can antique stoneware jug a memorable and highly desirable one. Very Good to Excellent overall antique condition. The item “MID-LATE 19TH C AMERICAN ANTIQUE STONEWARE 3 GAL JUG WithCOBALT BLUE BEE STING DEC” is in sale since Tuesday, November 24, 2020.
