Pictured for sale is a small advertising merchant redware bean pot. The bean pot is overglazed in brown Albany slip glaze. Both the brim & underside are unglazed. The pot is incised COMPLIMENTS OF C. JONES in block lettering. Quick, short research on the internet uncovered that Jones was in the mercantile business for a few short years in Bangor, Maine. Jones was also the brother of Alfred Jones whose name appears on a variety of small stoneware advertising oyster jars. The bean pot itself was made at the Bangor Stoneware Company & dates from 1880 – 1895. Anders Persson owned the pottery at that time. The bean pot measures 4 3/4″ in height and 4″ in diameter base.
