This is an antique stoneware 4 gallon butter churn with a fancy cobalt blue “4” on the front of it – it probably originates from New York State & was produced c. 1890’s – it is in very good antique condition with no cracks or defects to mention – the top may be original to the churn but it is manufactured from “Albany Slip” brown clay – it fits slightly loose to the churn top which suggests it may not have been made with the churn, or, that it was simply crudely made – the wooden handle is well-used & probably is original. The churn measures 16″ high, 8″ across the top, & 11 across the bottom – it weighs approx.
