Packwood House Museum was among the oldest log-built structures in Pennsylvania, originally constructed as a two-story log cabin between 1796 and 1799. The building expanded throughout the 19th century and operated as a tavern and hotel until 1886. They named their home “Packwood” after the Fetherston family ancestral estate in England. The Fetherstons left their home and collections in a trust to create “a Public Museum for the educational benefits of all persons”. In accordance with their wills, Packwood House Museum opened to the public in 1972.
