He was only in New York until 1830 and arrived in Iowa in 1843 where he remained until his passing. He moved around a bit — from Van Buren County to Galena, Illinois to Colesburg, Iowa, where he established a pottery in 1857. It is believed that he worked for the pottery companies in Fort Dodge until his retirement. He is buried in Fort Dodge, Iowa. His son, George Evan Roberts became the head of the US Mint in 1898. This salt glazed ovid jug holds 2.5 gallons of water to the rim. This measures approximately 14″ tall and approximately 9-10″ diameter at its widest. There are glaze crazing marks mostly around the bottom area. This did not leak at all when I filled it with water to see how much it would hold. I have taken pictures of any chips as well – please refer to the photos. It has a beautiful cobalt blue flower – possibly a tulip – and the name of D Roberts & Co. Please refer to the photos and ask any questions if needed.
