North Carolina NC Pottery Jug Stamped POE & CO Fayettville Stoneware

A late 19th century Fayetteville, North Carolina salt glazed pottery jug stamped POE & CO. Measuring 7.5 tall. Poe’s work is considered scarce. His primary business was brick making with pottery on the side. Unlike Gurdon Robins who had to import some of his potters in 1820, Poe used North Carolina turners, chiefly William Henry Hancock, who had worked with J. Doris Craven, and Manley William Owen from Moore County. Most jugs online are in the brown Albany slip glaze. This example has an especially delightful salt glaze application.
