Clark, Lyons, New York Stoneware 2 Gallon Ovoid Jug with Tulip This beauty sports an Early Ovoid Form, Pottery Stamp, Freehand Capacity Number, and a Brushed Cobalt Tulip Executed in Strong and Shiny Cobalt Blue. Wonderful full ovoid form! This is the work of Nathan Clark who ran a satellite pottery in Lyons from 1822 to 1852 but the extreme ovoid shape of this piece is certainly suggestive of the earlier portion of this time-frame. The jug is expertly potted with great symmetry and stands 13 inches tall to the top rim by my measurement and the circumference around the widest portion of the bulbous body is an impressive 33 inches. A small 1/4 dimple on the side appears to have happened when it was made because of the blue ink around it. No hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. Some surface-only firing or age lines. A very impressive jug.
