Pictured is a novel brown Albany slip glazed scratch jug from the I. It is perhaps the first “stoneware” item I have seen representing the Independent Order of Odd Fellows organization. Typically, either early glass or ceramic items are found. The one gallon jug is incised W. 18th 1893 — A. ” The backside shows an incised rearing ram & the letters “F L T”, the initials of the group’s motto “Friendship, Love, & Truth. The initials of the individual who was being inaugurated & to whom the jug was presented to, but I’m not certain. Likewise “AMM” might represent the potters initials. The jug measures 9 1/4 in height & is in excellent condition with a very small shallow flake on the underside, seen at 3 o’clock, last pic. The light areas near the base are where the potter held the jug with his fingertips while the jug was still wet & prior to firing. It is certainly one of the best repairs, such that there is no evidence of where the damage was, noted for accuracy. I suspect the incised jug was produced in the Midwest area. This item is in the category “Antiques\Primitives”. The seller is “tebfam044″ and is located in this country: US. This item can be shipped to United States.
