1891 McCLOSKIE WHISKEY JUG SALT GLAZED STONEWARE NICE COMMERCIAL JUG
Century Salt-Glazed Stoneware Whiskey Jug was designed and patented by John McCloskie. Every jug was required to have the Patent Date Aug 11, 1891 on one side of the jug. About 10 tall, this was a popular commercial container for whiskey before the turn of the last century – often decorated with retailers addresses/text or a paper label. This example has a relief harvest scene on one side and the Pat Date on the other. There is a harmless small chip to the spout and several other very expected nicks and flakes but overall quite good for a handled and used stoneware jug 130 years old.
