Available for sale is an excellent one gallon redware cream pot from western New York State. It represents a transitional period for redware with a blue freehand decorated leaf design. Both the vertical blue accent & the dot appear to be deliberate. There is likewise a faint blue band on the exterior edge & underside of the rim. The ovoid jar measures 8 1/2″ in height, 4 7/8″ base diameter, & dates from 1850 – 1885. As seen, it’s in very good condition with two small flakes on the exterior rim & one on the brim. There is light spaulding of the glaze in the interior. Noted for accuracy, there is a very short 3/4 inmanufacture fire glaze line on the interior rim, not thru, last pic, 12 o’clock. The clear salt glaze shows off a beautiful salmon-colored vessel. Attributed to Lorenzo Johnson, Newstead, Erie County, New York. This item is in the category “Antiques\Primitives”.
