LYON, DATED 1854, MID-19TH CENTURY AME RI CAN ANTIQUE PUTTY WHITE SALT GLAZED STONEWARE CERAMIC BOTTLE, with STAMPED MAKER’S MARK on SLOPED NECK & COBALT BLUE SLIP STAMP DECORATION, FEATURING WHEEL-THROWN BODY & WIRE-CUT, UNGLAZED. BOTTOM BASE PLATE & EPISODES of BURNT. SIENNA & GRAY TRANSPARENT COLORS. Mid-20th century Ame ri can antique salt glazed stoneware ceramic jugs, crocks & bottles. 10″ Height x 3 34″ Width x 78 rim Diameter. Weight: Approximately 1 – 2 lbs. Virtually unblemished, with only the smallest of’touches’ or a tiny’knock’ on the sloped neck, at the top and to the right of the blue slip decorated maker’s stamped mark. This mid-19th century Ame ri can antique stoneware ceramic beer or root beer bottle is free of most condition issues that plague these ceramic bottles, such as hairline cracks, edge flea-bites, ceramic loss, stains and a laundry list of other condition issues. The slat glazed ceramic sidewalls are nearly pristine, with beautiful putty white salt glaze, peppered with episodes of pewter gray and burnt sienna transparent washes. The sloped, curved neck ascends upwards from a crisp upper edge, where the cylindrical body or tube of the bottle turns and heads upwards toward the exaggerated, bulbous headed, thick pouring spout. Miraculously, neither the spout head nor the bottom base plate edges are peppered or marked by unsightly flea-bites or ceramic material loss, depreciating from the antique stoneware bottle’s overall value. Quite clean, preceding the outbreak of the US Civil War by 7 years and incredibly now 164 years old and still in this kind of wonderfully preserved condition. Good to Very Good overall antique condition. The item “J W LYON 1854 MID-19TH C ANTIQUE SALT GLZD BLUE SLIP STMPD STONEWARE CER BOTTLE” is in sale since Thursday, November 26, 2020.
