SCARCE MID-19TH CENTURY WILLIAM FOWLER AME RI CAN ANTIQUE S P E C K L E D MUSTARD, SALT-GLAZED STONEWARE ROOT BEER CERAMIC BOTTLE, with STAMPED MAKER’S MARK on SLOPED FRONT SIDEWALL & BULBOUS POURING SPOUT. Mid-19th century Ame ri can antique decorated, salt-glazed stoneware ceramic bottle. 10 ¼” Height x 4 ½” Width (Shoulders) x 3 ¾ base Width. For your review and consideration is this very nice and recently discovered Wm. (William) Fowler speckled burnt umber, with yellow ochre, salt-glazed stoneware ceramic root beer or ginger beer bottle. It has a maker’s mark stamped on its sloped upper sidewall’Wm. The bottle’s remarkably without any significant structural or superficial damage, less one small chip on the lower edge running along the base. The salt-glazed finish still has a glossy, reflective finish. The bottom of the wheel-thrown bottle shows evidence of being cut from the potter’s wheel with a wire. The bulbous pouring spout is largely free of flea-bites and noticeable ceramic loss. This was most likely either a root beer or ginger beer ceramic bottle and was produced for the early manufacture and distribution of early soft drinks. No hairline cracks, stains or deep abrasions. 100% Authentic and 100% original. Good to Very Good overall antique condition.
