REDWARE Primitive Ovoid PITCHER Pot JUG Crock Manganese Stoneware. Antique early American redware primitive pitcher or stew pot with manganese & lead brown glaze. Century, this wheel thrown red clay piece has a bulbous, ovoid form with slight footed base, applied strap handle and features an incised ribbed pattern. The incising on this pitcher is quite unusual in that it is repeated over the entire body of the piece. The hand-applied strap handle is nicely shaped with a tapered form and decorative sculpted details. Measures approximately 7 ¾ tall and 7 at widest point. Measures 4 across the mouth (not including spout). Base measures 5 in diameter. In near MINT antique condition. The body of the pitcher has NO chips, nicks, cracks or other damage. The base has just a few small chips or shallow flakes along the bottom-most edge of the foot where the piece came off the wheel.
