RARE MID-20TH CENTURY AME RI CAN BRUTALIST VINTAGE VISCOUS GLAZED FAT LAVA COMPOUND DOUBLE HANDLE, REPEATED POURING SPOUT STONEWARE ART POTTERY TEAPOT, W/ ORIGINAL LID, SIGNED WITH MAKER’S MARK’U. Vintage Mid-20th century Ame ri can Brutalist. 7 ¾” Height x 11 ½” Width (Spout to Handle). 6 ½ Width (body). 5 ½ Height (w/o the lid on). Just discovered south of Boston, MA in a South Shore estate is this incredibly interesting and very unique mid-20th century vintage stoneware Ame ri can Brutalist stoneware ceramic teapot. It has both wheel-thrown and slab constructed elements. The rear handle is made up of slab constructed clay ribbons, that curl, connect and weave like toffee candy. The pouring spout is especially intriguing, with four tubular stems that emanate from the main vestibule and that bring the water to a smaller vestibule just beneath the actual fluted pouring spout. This teapot has surprising compound rear and forward features, which in and of themselves, might not seem so revolutionary and shocking but to actually see them realized on the archaic, classic form that is the immediately recognizable teapot, at once appears no less than extraordinary. The exterior glaze is a combination of pthalo blue light and ultramarine blue. There are also what appear to be sgraffito mark making on the exterior sidewalls. The glaze is viscous, physical and blistered, as is often seen with other Modernist fat lava ceramic glaze. A rare vintage Ame ri can Brutalist work of ceramic art. Very Good to Excellent overall vintage condition. The item “RARE MID-20TH C AMERICAN BRUTALIST VINT VISCOUS GLAZED COMPOUND STONEWARE TEAPOT” is in sale since Tuesday, December 10, 2019.
