Doulton & Slaters Patent Ivory Cobalt & Gold Floral Stoneware Vase C. 1886-1891
The neck is decorated in brown with gold gilt floral chintz decoration. Marked Doulton & Slaters Patent on the base. This was a process which involves the use of lace fabrics impressed into the surface of clay as a decorative technique. Also marked with a crown over Doulton Burslem. This mark was used by Royal Doulton between 1886 to 1891. The patent was granted in 1882 in England and 1885 in the US. It is also marked JE Caldwell & Co Philadelphia with the US patent number below. Has some wear to the gilding, but otherwise good condition with no chips or cracks. Measures approximately 5 5/8 inches wide including the handle x 9 1/2 inches tall. This is an antique and may have small in manufacture defects that do not affect the display of the piece.
