Ramsay's Superior Malt Scotch Whiskey Stoneware Jug c1890s
The history on this whiskey jug/brand is a bit vague as Ramsay is a fairly common name in Scotland and there are a number of Ramsays who owned scotch whiskey distilleries. It’s likely related to John Ramsay who own distilleries on the Isle of Islay; the more popularly known as the Port Ellen Distillery. John also imported some of first malt scotch whiskey to the Americas and this could be evidence of such whiskey. This is a 7-1/2 tall empty 1/4 gallon stoneware jug. Unsure if it’s the original cork. It’s in great condition but does have a couple of noticeable blemishes. There is a crack on the handle. The handle was never broken off and repaired, just a crack has appeared there or was a manufacturing error. There is also some crazing but it is not very noticeable unless you inspect it closely. There are other smaller minor blemishes which are either not very noticeable or add to its patina. Great investment on scotch whiskey history and very eye catching art, great for display!
