Pictured is a quite uncommon blue decorated stoneware water cooler offered for sale. The approximate three (3) gallon size cooler is freehand decorated with a large flower on stem design. The design is quite vivid & was applied with wide, long brush strokes. The ovoid cooler is unmarked but is attributed to the Portage/Summit County area of northeastern Ohio. There are four sets of three (3) incised bands which accent the cooler. It measures 12 1/4″ in height, 7 7/8″ in base diameter, & dates from 1830 – 1865. It’s in excellent condition with no nicks, hairlines or repairs whatsoever. As seen, there is chippage around the bung opening & a single shallow flake near the base. The chippage around the opening was the result of the applied extended stoneware bung being damaged & broken off. An attractive, eye-appealing blue decorated cooler…..
