PAIR pottery cats leopards Staffordshire type mantle Bookends antique perfect

A pair, male and female, of Staffordshire style palace cats or leopards lying on a base/pillow of green and cobalt blue ringed with gold. They are hand made and hand painted. Each cat has a golden ball between its paws and wears a golden collar with which Palace or temple cats were always depicted. I have termed these Staffordshire style as they are unmarked as were most of this type and have the single hole for drying and kilning as did those made during the 1800s. Later types have 2 larger holes for faster drying. The condition is perfect with minor normal age glaze crackling. Size: Long oval 9 1/2″ long and 5″ wide. The male is slightly taller then the female at 5 1/2″ tall and the female at 5″ tall.
