Rare, Mid 1800’s James River Richmond, Virginia Shop of DAVID PARR Bold Cobalt Blue Decorated 2 Gallon Stoneware Ovoid Crock. Sideways tulip flowers encircle the entire piece, with added vines and leaves. Handle ends also blue. Made at the Shop of David Parr Rockets Landing Richmond, Virginia along the James River. You can see examples of this piece in a variety of reference books. Some stoneware pieces with this tulips add some dots after the tulip called spitting tulips. A gorgeous piece from a region and potter highly sought after. This crock does have a three apologies of a missing handle a 3/8 chip above the other handle and a teeny manufacturing hairline filled with glaze. These imperfections are difficult to see because of the color of clay and the bold blue decorations are so captivating. It’s a real sacrifice to sell. This piece has been displayed in several museums. It’s truly a very special crock.
