VERY RARE ANTIQUE 1800s YELLOW SPOTTED SPANIEL DOG ROCKINGHAM YELLOW WARE MINT

Here we have a most unusual and extremely rare yellow spotted spaniel. This is a King Charles Spaniel to be precise. After firing and getting a dose of Rockingham glaze, the potter painted yellow spots on the dog and its eyes. Then, for good measure, he applied darker brown glaze in spots front and back. In all my years of collecting, Ive seen only one other Spaniel with this unique decoration. The dog was molded in two halves, then joined while the clay was still damp. In order to prevent drying lines from developing in the clay, the dog is hollow, if the dog was solid, it would develop drying lines and possibly burst in firing. This is a medium size dog, measuring 7 in height. Dating to the 1800s, this is in original mint condition with no damage or repairs. Dogs, and especially Spaniels, were favored subjects of potters and of the public. This dog is unique and will be treasured by its next owner.
