Mid-late 19th century Ame ri can antique decorated salt glazed stoneware ceramic jugs and crocks. 14 ½” Height x 8 ½” Width. For sale is this nearly completely undamaged and very handsome mid-late 19th century Ame ri can antique A. Ballard of Burlington, Vermont, 2 gallon, salt glazed stoneware ceramic handled jug. It’s realized in putty white salt glaze, with a cobalt blue slip glazed, stamped maker’s mark on the upper sloped neck and hand decorated floral blossom front sidewall motif. The jug has a very nice slab constructed, affixed handle that doesn’t suffer from any cracks, flea-bites or repairs old or new. The top pouring spout is the only place where there’s even any evidence of previous use, with only a few very minor, slight, small flea-bites to the spout’s outer edge. The wire cut bottom edge of the jug is largely free from any flea-bites or ceramic loss. The sidewalls are also free of bruises, spiderweb veining, ceramic loss or hairline cracks. The stamped typography has a maker’s mark’A.’ The gestural floral blossom motif is hand painted in semi-transparent cobalt blue slip glaze.
