THE EGOUTTOIR HAD HOLES AS AN EXTRA TO HELP’DRIP DRY’ AND THE PORTS-A-CUILLER WERE FOR DRYING AND HOLDING UTENSILS AT ALL TIMES. THIS PIECE/FORM IS ONE OF THE MOST AMAZING FORMS THAT WAS CREATED FOR DAILY USE IN THE KITCHEN. POTERIE WAS USED FOR MANY THINGS IN THE KITCHEN. THE PORT-COUVERTES/PORT CUILLERS/EGOUTTOIR-A -COUVERTES WERE USED TO HOLD UTENSILS HIGH ON THE WALL AS THEY WERE ATTACHED TO THE WALL WITH TWO PETITS HOLES KEEPING THEM WELL PROTECTED. THEY ALL HAD THE 2 POCKETS TO HOLD THE UTENSILS. THE REGION OF PROVENCE AND THE AREAS BORDERING FOLLOWED THIS CUSTOM OF KEEPING EVERYTHING ON THE WALL THAT HAD TO DO WITH FOOD. I HAVE HERE THIS PIECE AND IT IS INDEED A PERFECT JASPE PORT-COUVERTS/PORT-CUILLIER SAVOYARD (SAVOIE).. THE BROWNS, GREENS, REDS WERE ALL CREATED OVER THE BEAUTIFUL BUTTER YELLOW GLAZE FOUND IN MANY SAVOIE POTERIES. THE’PORT’ IS EARLY 19THC C AND IS’13 X 13.
