A great Antique early 19th C North Carolina Catawba Valley Pottery Alkaline Glaze 1 Gallon Ovoid Jar or Crock Marked JCM Attributed to Daniel Seagle. Excellent Condition 1 old surface chip to the underside of 1 handle, no other chips, cracks, or repairs. Measuring 9 5/8″ tall x 4 3/4″ at the top rim x 7 1/4″ wide x 5″ at the base and weighing 3lb 14oz the 1 handle is impressed J. CM the other with a 1 for gallons. CM mark were pieces made by Daniel Seagle for either John Michal or his father Johann Conrad Michal, who were members of a prominent family of Lincoln County, NC merchants and associates of the Seagles. Fantastic alkaline drippy olive and brown glaze throughout, wonderful small ovoid form, well centered and thin walled. Daniel Seagle of Vale NC.
