Antique Crock Stoneware Redware, Spice Jar, Ovoid Alkaline Style Glaze Primitive
ANTIQUE ONE HALF GALLON REDWARE STONEWARE CROCK/SPICE JAR. This is an exceptionally nice 1/2 gallon ovoid crock/spice jar. It measures 7-3/4″ tall with a diameter of 4-3/4″ at the bottom & 3-5/8 at the top and holds 1/2 gallon. A nice variable color alkaline style glaze on the exterior and interior. A 1” deep flared top rim. Triple line incised/tooled decoration 2 below the top rim. A slightly extended bottom (tooled). Potter’s finger grooves visible inside. The crock is in good structural condition showing no chips, cracks or hairlines. Although the exact provenance of this old 19th century jar is not known, the glaze suggests it was likely made in the southeast US. THANKS FOR VISITING LANE’S COUNTRY LARK!
