RARE Antique Southern Stoneware with Impressed Stamp of S SMYTH & BRO HOLLY SPRINGS, MISS. There is also an error in stamping as the T in the name SMYTH is imprinted upside down. That would make this old pottery extremely rare. This is a canning jar with glaze drips, a band around the base and a nice dark brown glaze with yellowish green color tones on the exterior. The interior is a dark brown albany. Please see all pictures for preowned antique condition. In the 1850’s, the Smyth family immigrated to the U. From Ireland with their family. Their sons, Samuel and Patrick had both been potters in Ireland. They continued their craft making utilitarian wares in Mississippi. In 1880, they employed 10 people.
