Offered for sale is this antique Doulton Lambeth stoneware tankard/mug, a trophy from 1881. The tankard has some beautiful design, on one side is a pair of birds with an egg laden nest, on the other a pair of birds, and under the handle (and on the opposite side) are pairs of animals, perhaps Victorian dolphins. It dates from 1881, the inscription on the silverplate rim reads “TG Williamson (Second) CF Holmes Hand P 1/2 Mile (Scratch)” – there are crossed arrows between the names, but a half mile for archery? Please excuse the reflections in the pictures. The tankard is just under 5.25 inches tall. There is a small flake on the foot ring – the tip of the pen is pointing to it. There is some wear to the silverplate rim and it could use a polish. Please see the close up pictures. Impressed and incised marks on the bottom as shown. Unfortunately, we have no control over that.
