BRUTALIST AME RI CAN VINTAGE SIGNED’B. HAND CONSTRUCTED, OVERLAPPING, TORN SLAB SIDEWALL CERAMIC VASE. With NATURAL, UNGLAZED STONEWARE SURFACES, SIGNED on BASEPLATE. Mid-20th century Brutalist vintage hand constructed stoneware ceramic vessels & art pottery. 10″ Height x 7″ widest Point x 6 base Width. For sale is this estate fresh and recently discovered in southern New Hampshire, slab constructed, torn and assembled sidewall, Brutalist stoneware ceramic vase, with unglazed, natural kiln-fired, original, matte, dry clay surfaces. The period ceramic piece is very much in keeping with the artistic and aesthetic concerns of the time it was made in. The vessel has most notably Brutalist features, with its extreme, hand-manipulated, torn pieces of stoneware clay, seemingly ripped and torn apart, only to somehow be reconstituted together, making up the sidewalls of the vessel. Not only is its uncompromising and severe plasticity on display but also its preoccupation with nature, the actual state of things occurring in nature and the unadulterated natural condition, where materials and the artistic processes manipulating them, would remain raw, undecorated and immediate. The is why the stoneware clay remains unglazed and still as it was when it came out of the ceramic kiln, with variegated color and dry, matte surfaces. A magnificent Brutalist work. When a simple pedestrian vase isn’t quite enough for the discretionary taste of a few. Very Good to Excellent overall vintage condition.
