Extremely rare, late 19th century stoneware dog doorstop made by Wallace & Cornwall Kirkpatrick/Anna Pottery of Anna, Illinois. There are an abundance of American stoneware dog doorstops but this particular example with the oval base, large bushy tail, and brown manganese details has been attributed to Anna Pottery by Crocker Farm. This unique variation has a hand-stippled base with a green glaze. This example also has glass eyes, which if not original to the piece, have been attached for a long time. The dog stands 13 1/4″ high and 9 1/2″ at the widest (with tail). Condition: Obviously, the base on this dog has been broken and reassembled. With the exception of some very small elements, all of the pieces are accounted for. They are clean breaks, which could be professionally and invisibly repaired if you so choose. The red arrows indicate the actual breaks, while all other cracks and lines are glazed-in firing flaws. A large and wonderful piece that displays well.
