As these forms of poteries became more and more popular, the Potters try to outpace each other with designing forms more fantastic than others! The Plongeon (plonger -‘to plunge’) here with the extra handle and spout, was a deluxe version of the more standard form which in itself was a superb design.. Found in the regions from The Gironde to Languedoc, the one I present is the rarest of all. The other regions had half glazed pieces and were strictly utilitarian. This piece with the amazing 5 layers of yellow/mustard glaze and the first step, applying the clear engobe that held minerals and small levels lead , to give it the translucent shine that only increased as the centuries passed. At the time it had to be ordered or.. Sur mesure’ from the potter as it took much time and expense to create these top forms of the Plongeon. The Plongeon got this name because it was used when men travelled and they could plunge the piece into a water source if they were without cups or mugs while drinking from the long spout without their lips touching the rim. It was also used from getting water from a narrow water source. This is the smallest size and it is the only I’ve ever found. These rare all glazed Plongeons disappeared long ago. I had this in my 300-400 rare pieces, in the’cave’, for my collectors from years ago. Every blue moon, you can find these still if you know private collectors who trade or sell. Luckily when in France, this group of experts (and colleagues/friends) include me as their’token American’. Two handles and a spout and the different shades of’jaune clair’ (clear Yellow) as they stopped production of’Le Plongeon avec Deux Anses et le Bec’. I like to find pieces for Americans who love these pieces so I can offer them in best perfect condition. 2/3’s of the pieces that wind up here are bought in french tourists markets. In regards to quality, authenticity, price and just as important… We always offers the same quality of excellence that make us the premier experts of’Terres Vernissees’ in the US.
