SUPERB ANTIQUE KOREAN JOSEON DYNASTY HONEY JAR 1800s Pottery Stoneware Sokganju

MAGNIFICENT ANTIQUE KOREAN STONEWARE HONEY JAR. Superb antique Korean honey jar with magnificently rich, deep amber glaze. The splendid form was hand potted, then carefully faceted around the entirety with a bamboo tool. The jar is enrobed in a delicious, molasses/dark honey colored glaze (most appropriately), traditional of the period. Would have been originally bound in hemp or straw twine to hold the lid tight and preserve to contents. This fine example retains its original lid, which is quite rare. Measures approximately 7.5 inches tall and 7 inches wide. In handsome antique condition, with original flaws and surface wear commensurate with age. We also note that the lid has been repaired at some point, visible on one edge of the underside. Displays wonderfully with great character. The short foot ring has been left unglazed and displays characteristics of the early period, indicating that the vase may have been produced as early as the 1700s. To be conservative, we have dated it to the 1800s, Joseon Dynasty. This magnificent example Korean ceramics would make an exquisite centerpiece for the discriminating connoisseur of the finest Asian antiques. See 11 photos at upper left of page with zoom feature.
