750-600 BC, CYPRUS CYPRO-ARCHAIC I ANCIENT CYPRIOT STONEWARE POTTERY WINE JUG. An authentic ancient Cypriot bichrome ceramic Wine Jug, Cypro-Archaic I period and dating to the 750-600 B. The piece has a spherical body with a ring base, flaring neck and pinched spout, surmounted by an arching handle. The terracotta jug has a white slip coated surface, decorated with black concentric circles around the neck and shoulder, with multiple encircling bands below. The handle is decorated with a series of horizontal parallel lines running down its length. Similar examples can be found. On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 174. Height: 19 cm or 7 1/2 inches. Width: 11.5 cm or 4 3/4 inches. In very good condition, without restoration or cracks. There are two minor losses to the base and one to the rim of the pinched spout. The piece exhibits an attractive aged patina, with calcified mineral deposits strongly visible throughout the surface of the body, as expected.
